Updates
For those of you who are visiting this site either for the first time or for the first time in a long time I must apologize.
You may or may not have noticed how our blogs are out of date, our demo is out of date and we really haven't even updated the site in quite awhile. Rest assured more is on the way. I'm going to update the site and demos oh so soon.
We've been incredibly busy with some great new clients and some old ones. I wish I could tell you all what we're working on but the only thing announced as of now is Epic Mickey.
So I'm going to go back in sound slaying mode head to GDC (where Kidko and I will DJ the gamma 4 party) and soon enough there will be some brand spankin new content up.

Metroid Prime Trilogy!
Some of our best work is being reissued August 24th as Nintendo releases Metroid Prime Trilogy, a collection of all three Metroid Prime games from Retro Studios reformatted for the Wii and assembled together on one disc. (IGN gave Metroid Prime 2 a "9.5" for sound and Metroid Prime 3 "10")
Matt formed GL33k around the time he started contributing sounds to Metroid Prime 2: Dark Echoes and I got my start helping with Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. So check out the vid below to meet some of Retro Studios' top guys as well as the people from Nintendo's Software Planning and Development team.
-Bobby
[EDIT] Here's the article from IGN's recent visit to Retro with a hilarious intro detailing the lengths they went to keep our current project hidden away from prying journalistic eyes.

Splosion-MAN esplodes on Wednesday
In an effort to continue preaching our gospel of game noise we bring you yet another string of positive audio reviews for our most recently released project "Splosion Man". I've said it to the boys at Twisted Pixel and I'll say again, this might simply be one of the most fun games we've ever worked on.
Chainsaw headed this one up proving that our model of remote implementation is not only possible but a sure fire way to make a games audio shine. From dynamic music integration, to all things splodable this was a hand crafted experience.
Heres what the critics are saying

WORTHPLAYING
"The game hits all the right tones when it comes to music and audio, though.
The soundtrack fits the levels perfectly, and the various sound effects mesh extremely well with
the background music. The music meshes well with the humor as well.
Any time you have 'Splosion Man pick up a donut-loving scientist,
the game will begin humming a cheerful catchy tune about how much everyone loves donuts.
The 'Splosion Man character is hilarious, with his barely coherent random mumblings and quips."
IGN
The soundtrack is full of rousing sci-fi and spy music,
and 'Splosion Man's manic babbling is a delight.

Ghostbusters Reviews are in
We've been busy as usual but I'm taking time out this Sunday to share some reviews that we've received for Ghostbusters Wii. This is a great victory because quite honestly we gambled pretty hard on this one.
Now to give you an idea of how hard we gambled we ended up switching to WWise with about six months before our first submission.
AudioKinetics WWise provided an AMAZING array of flexibility and power that we didn't have in the previous sound engine. Jimi, Jason, Kidko and myself put a ton of hours in to this project ensuring that our gamble paid off.
While the road was a bumpy one (incredibly bumpy at times) we created 90% of the sound assets, implemented and scripted them into INFERNAL, and created a dynamic music system within WWise (oh yeah and Jimi did 20 minutes of cut-scenes).
Chris Rickwood provided us with custom music for the Wii to work with our dynamic music system and combined with the great stuff from the Next Gen Game (by Kyle Richards) and the original score we had a solid audio package.
The support of the team at Red Fly was incredible and somehow we ended up with something we're pretty happy with.
Heres what some of the reviewers have to say.

Sound: 9.0 GAMING ZONE
From the sounds of the proton packs to the sounds of the ghoulies, the audio to this game is absolutely magnificent.
The voice acting by the original cast members also creates an experience Ghostbusters fans will enjoy
SOUND: 9.0 Kombo
Great voice work from the original cast, fun music, and nice sound effects make for a strong audio package
GameSpot
The sound effects in particular are terrific, from the groans and squeals of specters to the swooshes and bangs of your various weapon streams
IGN
Having the voices of the four Ghostbusters is invaluable. Toss in the soundtrack from the film and the sound effects, and I'm sold.
Nintendo World Report
The one aspect of the game that really pulls it all together is the incredible voice acting and sound work.
BLAST
Gl33k, who so successfully created the music in Mushroom Men along with Les Claypool, return to help with Ghostbusters, and even without the metronome-based tunes, the sounds and music do much to add to the experience. It’s not quite survival horror fare, but it fits the mood and helps immerse you in the experience of chasing down ghosts through abandoned buildings, cemetaries and haunted hotels. The pace picks up when you start to wrangle ghosts, which serves to build tension and keep you in the moment. It’s all very effective, and a welcome addition.

Mushroom Men is Out and Reviewed
Mushroom Men is a big deal to us GL33k boys. It marked our move to Austin, TX into a new studio. It was our first time to do everything from audio direction and sound design to integration, some scripting and composing music. It was huge to have the opportunity to integrate some custom music from Les Claypool. We were able to utilize various elements from his recordings to remix into more music tracks with a variety of moods for different uses. Along with the four main themes he contributed, GL33k contributed something like 50 different pieces of music. Mike Behrman, an ace with music trackers and RedFly's audio scripter for Mushroom Men contributed the sweet 16-bit style themes you hear during "Turret Time!" game modes.
Our work on Mushroom Men is being well received by the press albeit with some misinformation regarding the level of involvement Les Claypool had. Hey, no hard feelings, it's cool! We worked hard to maintain a style that's an organic mix of what Claypool brought to the table and where we were going with it from the beginning. Anyway, here's what they are saying:
"Mushroom Men's sound design is exceptional. Les Claypool (of Primus fame) contributes his own brand of quirky, funky bass lines that suit this world perfectly. Props also go to audio company Gl33k which brings the game's environments to life through clever use of sound effects." --IGN.com
"Perhaps even more central to the experience is the fantastic soundtrack -- an ominous, moody melange of bass, violins, and xylophones (for starters) by Primus' Les Claypool and game audio company GL33k." --1UP.com
"The game's personality is further enhanced thanks to the game's bizarre, yet fantastic score" --Gamespy
"...one of the year’s best soundtracks: a quirky, off-kilter creation composed in part by Les Claypool of the band Primus. It’s totally uniqe and fits the kitschy-but-cool, retro-spooky vibe of the game perfectly." --GamesRadar.com
"...the comical language of the mushrooms never seems to get tiresome... The unique sounds and rhythms do an excellent job of capturing the eerie and alien feel of the game" --CheatCC.com
"...one of the best soundtracks of the year... In fact, I think it’s fair to say that the music and atmosphere are the best parts of the game... the semi-experimental sounds and deeply funky melodies underscore every moment of the Mushroom Men experience. It’s very organic..." --GameShark.com
